Born in Karlsruhe, he was taught photography by his father. It all started back then with a simple reflex and a roll of film from the drug store. The camera had no automatic functions and all the settings had to be done manually. This entirely manual approach characterizes his photography to the present and also of the old SLR he never moved on from. He prefers to work with classic black and white film. His favourite subjects revolve around street photography. In his illustrated book "Schöne Ecken - Straßenfotografie in Kassel" (pretty places - street photography in Kassel), his Northern Hessen hometown served as a backdrop. The photographs in this book show men, less as residents and identifiable individuals, and instead as part of the urban environment. Kassel’s cityscape is marked by the German post-war architecture, providing the ideal background. These very special aesthetics are captured perfectly using analogue black and white images.
