Werner Gritzbach was born and raised in Nuremberg. After
graduation, military service and one semester of art history and archaeology in Erlangen he completed a six-month internship in a photo studio in Nuremberg, followed by studies at the Bavarian State
School of Photography in Munich.
The next three years he worked as an assistant to Jacques Schumacher in Hamburg, thereafter Werner Gritzbach started his own studio, to focus at first on musician portraits, followed by advertising
photography. Brief interlude as a cameraman at a crossing of the Atlantic in a fishing boat, a speedboat-race in the Caribbean and a documentary about a drought in Zimbabwe. Then mainly photography
for magazines of all kinds, fashion portraits and travel reports.
Divorced, one son, lives with his girlfriend in Hamburg.
